Set high above in space, drivers navigate the rings of Saturn and cross craters on the moon. Unlike its past appearances, this Rainbow Road takes place in a more realistic space environment, having rockets and planetoids in the background, complete with visible sun from a distance and a part of the track taking place on. It's music is remixed version of the Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road music. This beautiful seven-color course is the finale of the Special Cup in Mario Kart 7. Rainbow Road is once seen again featured in the last cup as the last race in Mario Kart 7. In this stage, the karts are driven by Shy Guys, and the karts they drive are the Standard Kart from Mario Kart 7. It wasn't until Mario Kart 7 that Shy Guys were playable on through the character select screen. If friends wanted to play the game together, but somebody didn't have the game, they could still connect together through DS Download Play however, the people who didn't have the game had no choice but to play as a Shy Guy. Mario Kart DS is the first game that allowed Shy Guys as playable characters, but only through DS Download Play. This Rainbow Road is based on the Mario Kart 7 version. The lack of any new tracks is disappointing, but again, the selection of classics is pretty solid, and it seems like the visuals may have been upgraded a bit following criticism of the first two waves. The first two waves included one original course each – Ninja Hideaway in Wave 1 and Sky-High Sundae in Wave 2. Unfortunately, what the upcoming Booster Course Pack update won’t have are any all-new tracks.
